Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop multi-megawatt renewable energy projects, including solar and energy storage, through all development stages until ready for financing and construction.
  • Negotiate agreements with landowners, manage site control, utility interconnection, permitting, and policy participation to prepare projects for sale.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders such as landowners, utilities, government agencies, and policymakers.
  • Drive regional market strategy, prioritize project development efforts, and meet or exceed annual volume and profit targets.
  • Generate project opportunities through market research, networking, cold calls, and business development activities.
  • Coordinate and lead project development activities, including site control, interconnection, permitting, design, and policy engagement.
  • Support internal teams (engineering, finance, legal) during project development and transaction closing processes.
  • Gather market intelligence to refine development strategies and stay informed on regulatory and policy environments.
  • Negotiate contracts, proposals, and RFP responses with clients and partners.
  • Maintain accurate project data in company systems and provide guidance to junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong knowledge of the battery energy storage industry, or a similar and/or adjacent project development context
  • Successful track record in a complex sales or project development environment, preferably in New York battery energy storage, involving large, technical, construction, and/or financial products with long sales cycles that require relationship building, lead generation, navigation of complexity, and deal closing
  • Ability to filter through lots of information to figure out what matters, and to prioritize truly promising opportunities from others
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and follow in cross-functional teams, and to be a great teammate
  • Understanding of key quantitative business concepts, including probabilistic thinking and financial metrics such as NPV and IRR
  • Ability to spend time in person with customers and travel frequently in the assigned territory, with 20-50% travel
  • Experience developing solar and energy storage projects at the megawatt scale, from origination through financial close
  • Experience negotiating agreements with landowners, starting entitlement and interconnection processes, and moving projects through the development process until they are ready to finance and build
  • Experience building and nurturing relationships with local stakeholders, including landowners, local governments, utilities, and policymakers
  • Ability to develop and execute a project development plan, including meeting or exceeding annual volume targets with a goal of closing multiple projects generating at least 5 million dollars of direct profit each year
  • Experience gathering market intelligence and expanding relationships with governments and utilities to understand and refine the development environment
  • Experience leading opportunity generation activities such as account profiling, cold calls, business networking, and market penetration strategies
  • Experience generating proposals, quotes, and formal RFP responses
  • Experience working with legal, finance, and executive teams to negotiate contract terms and close transactions
  • Ability to consult with clients and professionals to develop financial models and assist with tax, financing, and regulatory research and negotiations
  • Experience maintaining accurate project information in company systems of record
