Job Description

The Accounting Strategist at Industrious Labs is a part-time, remote role responsible for managing core accounting functions, reconciling accounts, supporting financial reporting, and driving process improvements to ensure organizational financial health and transparency in support of the company's mission for climate justice and industrial transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with third-party accounting team and facilitate communication
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and employee credit cards
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure financial accuracy
  • Record and allocate payroll transactions by department or grant
  • Process deposits, invoices, and revenue transactions
  • Enter and post accounts payable transactions with proper coding
  • Manage accounts receivable and assist with collections
  • Generate monthly revenue reports for program leads and leadership
  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries
  • Prepare financial statements for management, board, and funders
  • Assist in annual budgeting with data analysis and reconciliation
  • Support finance-related tax, audit, and assurance tasks
  • Identify and propose process improvements for operational efficiency

Requirements

  • Demonstrated skill reconciling multiple bank and credit card accounts.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles for for-profit and nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience with accounting platforms, especially Sage Intacct.
  • Ability to perform monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts and employee credit cards.
  • Ability to reconcile balance sheet accounts to maintain financial integrity and accuracy.
  • Experience recording and allocating payroll transactions by department, grant, or other relevant dimensions.
  • Experience processing deposits against invoices and revenue accounts across various programs.
  • Ability to enter and post accounts payable transactions, ensuring proper coding and authorization.
  • Ability to occasionally manage accounts receivable and assist with collections or follow-ups.
  • Ability to generate monthly revenue reports for program leads and organizational leadership.
  • Experience maintaining the general ledger, preparing and posting journal entries as needed.
  • Ability to prepare draft and final financial statements for management, board, and funders.
  • Experience assisting in the annual budgeting process with data analysis and reconciliation.
  • Experience supporting finance staff with tax, audit, and assurance preparation tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills able to translate financial information to non-financial audiences.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $43.75 per hour
Work schedule: Flexible hours, minimum 20 hours per week
Work environment perks: Fully remote work, work-from-home stipend, up to 5% 401k employer match, 11 paid holidays, unlimited PTO with a minimum of 8 business days
Additional benefits: Yearly prorated compensation of $6,000 to offset health coverage costs (health benefits not provided for part-time employees)
