The Director of Lab Operations at HRL Materials and Microsystems Laboratory is responsible for leading operational efficiency, strategic program execution, and organizational management to support advanced research and development projects in aerospace, automotive, and national security sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Drive lab-wide operational efficiency for space, facilities, staffing, and resources
Identify and implement workflow process improvements
Lead cross-organizational coordination to align goals and set priorities
Oversee and manage process execution for proposals, reviews, and customer engagement
Support program execution through data-driven decision making and risk management
Manage day-to-day programmatic and organizational demands, addressing issues promptly
Organize and host internal program reviews and track deliverables
Support proposal planning and resource management
Oversee budget forecasting, resource allocation, and capital planning
Represent MML in internal initiatives and external relations
Requirements
Ten (10) years of experience in R D operations, program management, or applied technology development in industry or government
Five (5) years of experience leading technical teams, with experience in organizational strategy and resource planning
Experience in solving complex organizational and bureaucratic challenges through effective stakeholder engagement and influence
Experience in financial management, including budget oversight, resource allocation for space and people, capital planning, and overhead expenditures
Research Development proposal and contracting experience with diverse federal agencies
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in a related engineering, science, or technology field
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
