Job Description
The Computational Chemist will lead interdisciplinary research initiatives in materials discovery, focusing on computational modeling of optical, magnetic, and polymer materials, while developing platforms and strategies for innovative materials research and funding acquisition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cutting-edge R&D initiatives in interdisciplinary environments involving chemists, physicists, and engineers.
- Conduct computational modeling and materials theory research across optical, magnetic, and polymer materials.
- Develop and lead computational platforms for materials discovery.
- Generate research ideas, write proposals, and lead teams for funded projects.
- Perform atomistic material simulations using frameworks like DFT or molecular dynamics.
- Analyze data and integrate workflows using programming languages such as Python or C.
- Collaborate with experimental teams and contribute to experimental techniques when applicable.
Requirements
- A PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering with a strong emphasis on material discovery.
- Excellent theoretical foundation in atomistic modeling and strong knowledge of current and emerging ML AI techniques relevant to candidate generation and data insights as part of a materials discovery pipeline.
- Expert-level ability in materials modeling, particularly in understanding at least one of the following: light-matter interaction across a broad range of materials and photonic devices, magnetic property prediction, or polymer modeling.
- The ability to lead the development of computational platforms for materials discovery.
- Strong experience in atomistic material simulation within frameworks such as density functional theory (DFT) or molecular dynamics.
- Experience with HPC environments and job scheduling.
- Highly proficient in programming languages like Python or C for data analysis and integration with simulation workflows.
- Must be capable of performing extended analysis at computer workstations.
- Must be able to work safely in an optical, electrical testing, and wet chemistry laboratory.
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
