Job Description

The position involves managing and optimizing a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy investments, including wind, solar, and other sustainable infrastructure projects, by leading performance monitoring, risk management, financial analysis, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure investment targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize the financial performance of renewable energy portfolios.
  • Lead value enhancement initiatives, risk management, and performance monitoring using KPIs.
  • Forecast, track, and report portfolio cash flows and performance metrics to management and investors.
  • Oversee investment restructurings, workouts, modifications, and dispositions, including negotiations and deal documentation review.
  • Support due diligence for new investments by reviewing contracts, market, and regulatory risks.
  • Maintain and analyze investment data, conduct variance analysis, and develop performance dashboards.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for onboarding and ongoing monitoring of investments.
  • Support the development and enhancement of financial models, reports, and analytics tools.
  • Participate in governance and operational committees related to portfolio investments.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of overall professional experience, with at least 10 years experience in investing, financing, and or portfolio management in the North American renewable energy sector, with a focus on wind, solar, renewable natural gas, electric transportation, energy efficiency, and or other sustainable infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technical discipline i.e. engineering or finance business.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and management skills.
  • Deep understanding of the underlying project assets and investment structures including financial, technical, and contractual aspects.
  • Deep familiarity with deal documents, governance rights, HASI’s rights and obligations, and financial models of the portfolios they are leading.
  • Experience acting as the lead on investment restructurings, workouts, modifications, and dispositions, including leading cross-functional teams, assessing value and risk, negotiating terms, and reviewing final deal documents.
  • Ability to provide and manage financial modeling and other support for valuation updates, restructuring models, and corporate reporting requirements including cash flow forecasting.
  • Experience supporting due diligence on new investments, including reviewing key commercial contract terms, negotiating acceptable outcomes, analyzing revenue and expense assumptions, and assessing market and regulatory risks.
  • Experience analyzing and underwriting sustainable infrastructure investments, with prior participation in an investment approval process preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts, operations and maintenance, energy marketing, and regulations related to North American renewable utility scale, distributed generation power, renewable natural gas, and or transportation projects.
  • Strong financial analysis and modeling skills with experience in creating, reviewing, and analyzing financial models.
  • Experience working with modern data analytics and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Tableau, and others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Dependable, reliable, plays to win as a team, and excellent at taking initiative, mentoring, and managing staff.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and a supportive team member.
  • Experience negotiating and resolving troubled investments and workouts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust quickly to changing priorities.
  • High caliber and professional interpersonal, negotiation, communication, time management, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to work in Annapolis, MD (location requirement).
  • HASI is willing to take over sponsorship for existing H1-B visas for exceptional talent, but cannot provide new H-1B sponsorship at this time.
