Job Description

The Credit Manager at HASI is responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and managing investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, leading transactions through their entire lifecycle and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to grow the company's investment portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead transactions through the entire lifecycle from qualification to closing.
  • Assess initial transaction viability and communicate investment recommendations.
  • Develop work plans to pursue transactions and obtain client mandates.
  • Oversee due diligence processes, including analyzing project agreements and credit analysis.
  • Collaborate on transaction structuring, documentation, and execution plans.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders such as clients, legal counsel, and leverage partners.
  • Support the identification and negotiation with leverage partners for transactions.
  • Assist in financial modeling, including debt and project finance models.
  • Provide transaction expertise for post-closing asset management and decision-making.
  • Coordinate with risk management to communicate risk considerations and mitigants.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in asset-based lending, structured finance, and/or securitization markets with a clear understanding of associated documentation, transaction structures, and overall execution.
  • Proven experience in asset-based lending, structured finance, and/or securitization markets with a clear understanding of associated documentation, transaction structures, and overall execution.
  • Mastery of MS Excel financial modeling with demonstrable experience working with debt and project finance models, and ability to manipulate and refine models on short timelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution.
  • Experience leading transactions through the entire lifecycle, including initial qualification, bidding, conversion, due diligence, documentation, and closing, with guidance from a transaction Director.
  • Ability to develop and implement a work plan to pursue transactions and obtain mandates from clients.
  • Experience analyzing terms in underlying project agreements such as service contracts, construction agreements, and financing agreements during due diligence.
  • Ability to oversee credit analysis on transaction counterparties and incorporate findings into transaction structure and documentation recommendations.
  • Experience developing and overseeing transaction execution plans, including developing key action steps, collaborating with legal, accounting, and transaction management teams, and delegating tasks among team members.
  • Experience communicating with external stakeholders including clients, transaction counsel, and leverage partners, and providing feedback to deal teams.
  • Support the process of identifying and executing with leverage partners for transactions, including assisting in negotiation of documents, facilitating due diligence requests, supporting the closing process, and overseeing the financial model.
  • Work closely with the Director to understand leverage parameters when qualifying transactions and developing transaction structures and documentation.
  • Support post-closing activities such as asset servicing, modifications, and consents, and facilitate communication with clients and leverage partners.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management team to communicate risk considerations and mitigants for specific transactions and the overall portfolio.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to distill and communicate information effectively to team members and external stakeholders.
  • Dependable and reliable, with the ability to take initiative, be productive without supervision, and support team members.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform the responsibilities of the role, including leading and overseeing complex financial transactions.
  • Willingness to work within a deal team environment, reporting to a Director and sometimes overseeing junior team members.
