Job Description
A battery system design engineer responsible for conceptualizing and designing energy storage systems for electric vehicle and utility applications, providing technical support during pre-sales and post-sales phases, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards to drive successful ESS solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conceptualize battery systems tailored to project requirements, optimizing performance, safety, and cycle life.
- Provide pre-sales technical support and develop documentation for customer account engagements.
- Manage technical account engagements pre- and post-sales to ensure successful ESS solution adoption.
- Support utility-scale and commercial projects with customized design solutions to secure design wins.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to identify and address product technical issues and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate field testing and gather feedback on new hardware and software.
- Work closely with customer support to resolve technical issues and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Engage with customers and partners on ESS system applications and integration with balance of system components.
- Develop technical documentation including specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and proposals.
- Prioritize and manage technical support tasks within the sales pipeline to ensure project progression.
- Coordinate with R&D and design teams to align on test procedures and product positioning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into larger products.
- Lead and support the development and adoption of technical tools and training for sales and partners.
- Act as the primary technical contact for customer feedback and product issues, providing solutions.
- Manage communication and feedback loops among sales, customer support, and product management regarding technical topics.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or a Master's degree is preferred.
- Practical experience with distributed PV solar and energy storage system applications.
- 2-5 years of experience in ESS engineering design, technical pre-sales support, and project management.
- Strong knowledge of certification and regulatory codes for ESS installations and development.
- Ability to conceptualize and design battery systems based on project requirements, including selecting appropriate battery chemistries, cell configurations, and packaging designs to optimize performance, energy density, safety, and cycle life.
- Experience in systems design, module and pack design with a focus on design and application-oriented solutions for ESS applications.
- Experience in pre-sales technical support for customer account engagements, including development of documentation, best practices, and training to ensure high-quality design and minimal post-sales technical support issues.
- Experience in pre- and post-sales management of technical account engagements to develop and communicate comprehensive design, installation, and operational plans for successful ESS solution adoption.
- Ability to lead product management and development of broad-based market training and tools addressing best practices and requirements, such as standard and technical business tools.
- Experience coordinating field testing and feedback collection for new hardware and software.
- Ability to work closely with Customer Support to enable a closed-loop system on key technical and product-related issues and ensure high customer satisfaction, especially with top installer accounts.
- Experience engaging with customers on application of ESS systems and collaborating with partners for balance of system equipment providers, software EMS integration, and EPC.
- Development of technical documentation including technical specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and technical diligence proposals.
- Ability to work closely with sales teams to determine prioritization of account project opportunities and ensure coordination with customers.
- Experience managing tasks in the technical pipeline to ensure qualified projects receive appropriate pre-sales design and technical support.
- Experience working with China-based R&D, design, and pre-sales technical support teams to ensure ESS products are prepared and positioned to win business.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into larger products or systems.
- Participation in design reviews, meetings, and discussions to exchange ideas, provide technical expertise, and gather feedback.
- Experience leading and collaborating with Product Management on technical tools and training, and driving adoption through sales teams, partners, and distributors.
- Acting as a sales focal point for input feedback into product management on major product and technical issues and recommended solutions.
- Managing a closed-loop process with product management, customer support, and sales on all field pre-sales related topics and issues.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German and/or Chinese is a plus.
