Job Description

The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineering position focuses on research, development, implementation, and qualification of non-destructive testing methods for the GE Vernova Gas Power business as well as other GE Vernova businesses as needed.

Key Responsibilities

The NDE Engineering position focuses on the development, implementation, and qualification of non-destructive testing methods / procedures for the GE Vernova Gas Power business as well as other GE Vernova businesses as needed. Essential job functions for this role include:
Working closely with NDE engineers in the group to develop, improve, or clarify NDE processes and procedures.
Interfacing with Design Engineering to specify the correct NDE techniques and limits to meet the needs of the components.
Qualification of NDT techniques at suppliers and in-house as needed. Support training activities as needed to accomplish qualification activities.
Interpret NDE results and disposition of materials based on inspection findings
Maintain an active role in defining state-of-the-art NDE methods and developing new capabilities to address unique component inspection challenges.
Apply material science and processing technology knowledge to select appropriate NDE methods capable of detecting material and/or processing defects.
Support process development and continuous improvement to reduce defects or improve inspection capability.
Review and disposition component deviation requests – documenting engineering judgement after technical review of factors contributing to deviations.
Authoring specifications and procedures, reviewing drawings
Failure analysis / Forensic engineering to determine root cause of failure using NDE, fractographic, and metallographic techniques to investigate environmental, material, and material processing contributions to failure.

Requirements

Minimum of a BS degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Non Destructive Evaluation, or related field.
Prior 1+ years experience in a relevant field (one of the following): Prior full-time work experience or co-op/internship, or graduate research.
Advanced degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Non Destructive Evaluation, or related field.
Experience with optical, acoustic, magnetic, and/or thermal sensor technologies.
Experience with material processing technologies such as steelmaking, forging, casting, joining, or fabrication.
Centrally certified (ASNT or equivalent) in one or more NDT Methods, or the qualifications and willingness to pursue certification.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector or welding inspection experience.
Familiarity with engineering drawings, material specifications, inspection procedures, or industry standards.
Exposure to programming, data analysis, automation, CAD, CNC equipment, PLCs, or inspection software.
Mechanical aptitude and a structured approach to troubleshooting and experimentation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and technical integrity.
Curious and receptive to coaching, feedback, and unfamiliar technologies.
Interested in understanding, developing, and improving inspection processes, not solely performing established inspections.
Able to work effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, quality teams, and suppliers.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
