Job Description
The Vehicle Maintenance Manager oversees and manages the maintenance and service operations for Gatik's autonomous Class 3-7 fleet across North America, ensuring vehicle safety, compliance, and reliability through strategic planning, vendor management, and hands-on technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the end-to-end vehicle maintenance program for the North American fleet.
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and maintain service records.
- Manage relationships with third-party service providers, OEMs, and vendors.
- Ensure fleet compliance with DOT and CMV regulations, including inspections and documentation.
- Utilize fleet management tools to monitor maintenance workflows, fault reporting, and fleet health.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for maintenance teams and partner shops.
- Monitor fleet performance metrics and generate reports on maintenance, costs, and downtime.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Field Operations on vehicle upgrades and deployments.
- Participate in diagnostics, inspections, and component replacements during escalations or high-priority events.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, workflow automation, and vendor performance improvements.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in fleet maintenance, vehicle service operations, or a similar role.
- Proven success managing maintenance programs for medium-duty commercial fleets across multiple locations.
- Certified and qualified to perform DOT inspections per FMCSA regulations or strong familiarity with DOT CMV compliance.
- Familiarity with diesel systems, reefer units (e.g., Thermo King), CAN bus diagnostics, and vehicle sensors.
- Experience implementing and managing tools such as Fleetio, Samsara, Geotab, or equivalent fleet management platforms.
- Excellent vendor management and negotiation skills able to hold service partners to high standards.
- Technically proficient and confident, participating in maintenance planning and field diagnostics.
- Organized, analytical, and proactive with a strong problem-solving ability and a data-informed mindset.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to support other Gatik locations in North America.
- Ability to support hands-on work including diagnostics, inspections, and component replacement when necessary.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills able to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Benefits & Perks
Salary Range: 120,000-180,000 USD
Full-time onsite role based in Mountain View, CA with occasional travel to other North American locations
