Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's box trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect route data to support autonomous driving technology, and maintain safety and customer service standards in the Greater Toronto Region.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate class 3-7 delivery vehicles manually on assigned routes
- Collect route data to support the development of autonomous driving technology
- Ensure timely delivery of goods while maintaining safety and cargo integrity
- Assist with loading and unloading goods using appropriate equipment
- Perform daily vehicle safety checks and routine maintenance tasks
- Update dispatch team on route and shift status
- Follow company SOPs and safety standards during operations
- Collaborate with teams on route procedures and equipment testing
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience operating box straight trucks up to 26-35 ft long in North America (US or CN) with a valid AZ through DZ driver’s license
- Insurability by our underwriting, including a clean driving record (personal and professional) and passing a background check
- Ability to use smartphone applications and willingness to provide your mobile device
- Physical ability to perform tasks including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing a ladder, and operating a manual pallet jack with up to 400 lbs. (181 kg) of goods and materials
- Willingness to work flexible hours on both weekdays and weekends
- Ability to manually drive Class 3-7 less than 33,001 pound GVWR box truck delivery vehicles in manual modes, ensuring safe and reliable operation
- Ability to assist with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, and handbombing
- Ability to perform daily routine checks on trucks, including monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, and hose connections to ensure operation and safety
- Ability to collect route data by manually driving assigned, consistent routes to support future autonomous operations
- Ability to update the dispatch team on shift and route status
- Ability to perform ad-hoc projects such as truck delivery to new locations, testing, and installing new equipment
- Ability to learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards
