Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's box trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect route data to support autonomous technology development, and maintain safety and customer service standards in the Greater Toronto Region.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class 3-7 delivery trucks manually to ensure on-time deliveries and safety of drivers, public, and vehicle.
- Drive assigned routes to collect data supporting the development of autonomous driving technology.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods securely using appropriate equipment.
- Perform routine vehicle checks to maintain safety and operational standards.
- Update dispatch team on route and shift status.
- Collaborate with teams to follow collection and drop-off procedures.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience operating box straight trucks up to 26-35 ft long in North America (US or CN) with a valid AZ through DZ driver’s license
- Insurability by our underwriting, including a clean driving record (personal and professional) and passing a background check
- Ability to use smartphone applications and willingness to provide your mobile device
- Must be willing to work flexible hours on both weekdays and weekends
- Ability to perform physical work including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing a ladder, and operating a manual pallet jack with up to 400 lbs. (181 kg) of goods and material
- Ability to manually drive the vehicles on assigned, consistent routes to gather route data in support of moving toward future state autonomous operations
- Ensure safe, reliable operation of class 3-7 less than 33,001 pound GVWR, with or without air brakes, box truck delivery vehicles, in manual modes while keeping other drivers, operators, the public, and the vehicle safe
- Assist with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, handbombing, etc.
- Perform daily routine checks monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, hose connections, etc., to ensure the operation and safety of trucks
- Update the dispatch team on shift and route status
- Collaborate with teams to follow collection and drop-off procedures on each journey
- Learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards
