Job Description
A Database Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise geospatial databases, collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams to support GIS applications and workflows, and ensuring database security, performance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with customers to understand business and technical requirements for enterprise database design and implementation
- Design, implement, and configure scalable, secure, and robust database solutions supporting mission-critical applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during all phases of database implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build, and deployment
- Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies
- Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies
- Implement data security measures, access controls, and ensure compliance standards across database environments
- Automate routine database tasks such as data loading, maintenance, and monitoring to improve efficiency
Requirements
- 8 years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA
- Demonstrated experience with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security
- Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database
- Basic understanding of geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers
- U.S. citizenship and willingness and ability to obtain a public trust background investigation or security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field
