Job Description

A Sr. Accountant responsible for managing the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulations, preparing financial statements, supporting audits, and driving process improvements within the corporate accounting team at Esri's headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the month and year-end close process for domestic entities, ensuring accurate financial statements and compliance with GAAP and regulations
  • Perform monthly close functions including reviewing and preparing general ledger entries, reconciliations, and management reporting
  • Maintain and develop accounting policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices
  • Support and provide technical guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions
  • Collaborate with FP&A to communicate transactions impacting financial results and forecasts
  • Assist operational areas such as Accounts Payable and asset management in accounting activities
  • Drive process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy of accounting functions

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of prior experience in public accounting or a similar position.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial consolidation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex accounting issues to various levels of the organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including XLOOKUPS and pivot tables.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or in a related field with an Accounting Certificate or qualification that meets the California CPA eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to support the month and year-end close process for all domestic entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statements and compliance with local GAAP, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to conduct monthly close functions such as reviewing and preparing general ledger entries, monthly reconciliations, and supporting necessary management reporting analysis.
  • Ability to ensure quality control over financial transactions, financial reporting, and monthly allocations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Ability to support and implement complex accounting issues and transactions and provide technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Ability to interact closely with FP&A and effectively communicate transactions that impact results and forecasts, including short-range outlooks, annual, and long-range plan development processes.
  • Ability to support operational areas that impact domestic accounting activities such as Accounts Payable, Assets, and other transactional functions.
  • Proficiency in large ERP systems, preferably SAP.
