Job Description

A software engineer at Esri will develop and enhance the ArcGIS Enterprise platform by designing, building, and testing distributed systems, micro-services, and spatial data analytics tools, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable mapping and GIS solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to deploying secure AI web service applications using Java, JavaEE, and Python FastAPI.
Design, develop, and test software features to meet customer requirements, ensuring fault tolerance and concurrency.
Participate in automated testing to ensure performance and quality.
Troubleshoot performance, observability, infrastructure, deployment, and scaling issues.
Design and maintain DevOps pipelines for continuous integration and deployment across cloud and on-premises environments.
Collaborate with product engineers, AI developers, and DevOps teams to understand and implement evolving requirements.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in software development.
Proficiency in Python and/or Java.
Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend frameworks such as JavaEE, Spring, or FastAPI.
Knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or DB2.
Familiarity with current AI ecosystem including agents and related protocols such as MCP, A2A, and more.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to self-direct, with an eagerness to learn and grow.
Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, GIS, mathematics, or a related field.
