Job Description

A Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Esri is responsible for designing and developing automated tests to ensure the quality and performance of ArcGIS Enterprise software, collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve testing frameworks and validate complex distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product engineers to establish and refine test plans and identify automation opportunities
  • Create automated tests for functional, performance, scalability, and durability aspects of software components
  • Develop and deploy automated integration and regression test cases across supported platforms
  • Manage, refactor, and maintain automated test suites and results dashboards
  • Perform peer reviews of test code to ensure quality and effectiveness
  • Collaborate with software engineers to improve software quality through automated testing
  • Measure test coverage and analyze continuous integration test results
  • Design, implement, and document automated test frameworks and reporting infrastructure

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position involving automated quality assurance, testing, or software testing roles.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, C#, or Python, with the ability to design and develop automated tests.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Applied knowledge of testing principles including experience designing and executing test cases.
  • Experience using test automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, JUnit, or PyUnit.
  • Understanding of deployment tools such as Jenkins or Chef.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, GIS, data science, network science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Ability to collaborate with product engineers to establish test plans, identify gaps, and prioritize manual tests for automation.
  • Experience creating tests for functional, performance, scalability, and durability testing of software components, including knowledge graph and link analysis.
  • Experience designing and developing automated integration and regression test cases on software components through APIs.
  • Ability to deploy and schedule integration tests to run daily against supported graph database management system platforms and share test results.
  • Experience managing and refactoring the suite of integration tests and results dashboards as needed.
  • Performing rigorous and in-depth peer reviews of test code.
  • Collaborating with software development engineers to improve software quality by understanding design and writing automated tests for various user workflows.
  • Measuring test coverage and analyzing continuous integration test results.
  • Defining, implementing, maintaining, and documenting automated test frameworks.
  • Advocating for quality throughout the software development process and advising on test optimization.
