Job Description
A Database Engineer at Esri is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure enterprise geospatial databases, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support GIS applications and workflows, and ensuring optimal database performance and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure database solutions for mission-critical applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout all implementation phases
- Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster recovery
- Monitor and optimize database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies
- Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards
- Automate routine database tasks such as loading, maintenance, and monitoring
- Provide technical guidance on database design, migration, and integration projects
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA.
- Familiarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security.
- Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows.
- Exposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers.
- U.S. citizenship and willingness and ability to maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or a related STEM field.
