Job Description
Mid-Level Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians support research and technical projects for the EPA, focusing on environmental decontamination, emission characterization, and air quality modeling, working in specialized laboratories and providing technical solutions, project execution, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in the development, design, and execution of research projects related to environmental science and engineering.
- Conduct research activities including measurement method validation, source emission characterization, and data collection in atmospheric, chemical, biological, toxicological, and ecological areas.
- Utilize air quality simulation modeling and operate in specialized laboratories and machine shops for fabrication, analysis, and microbiological testing.
- Design, develop, and optimize technical solutions and project workflows.
- Mentor junior team members and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Prepare work plans, quality assurance documents, health and safety plans, and technical reports.
Requirements
- Must have a strong technical background relevant to engineering, science, or related fields.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must have the ability to collaborate across teams to drive innovation.
- Must have experience in designing, developing, and optimizing solutions for technical research projects.
- Must have experience in executing technical projects related to environmental research, including decontamination, consequence management, measurement methods validation, source emission characterizations, and data collection research.
- Must have the ability to write work plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and reports for work performed.
- Must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have experience supporting research activities in atmospheric sciences, physical, chemical, biological, toxicological, and human and ecological exposure development, evaluation, and application of air quality simulation modeling.
- Must have experience working in specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication machine shops, Metrology laboratories, and microbiological laboratories.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in engineering, science, or technical support roles.
- Must have the ability to mentor junior team members.
- Must be willing to work in specialized laboratory environments and machine shops.
- Must have the ability to develop, review, and implement health and safety plans.
- Must be able to communicate effectively through written reports and documentation.
- Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of working in laboratories and machine shops, including handling equipment and materials as required.
