Job Description
Mid-Level Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians support research and technical projects for the EPA, focusing on areas such as atmospheric sciences, environmental measurement methods, and air quality modeling, while working in specialized laboratories and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in the development, design, and execution of research projects related to atmospheric sciences, environmental measurements, and air quality modeling.
- Conduct research activities in specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication, metrology, analytical, microbiological, and toxicological laboratories.
- Design, develop, and optimize solutions for research projects and technical challenges.
- Execute technical research projects, including data collection, measurement method validation, and source emission characterization.
- Mentor and collaborate with junior team members to ensure project success.
- Prepare work plans, quality assurance documents, health and safety plans, and technical reports.
Requirements
- Must have a strong technical background relevant to engineering, science, or related fields.

- Must have the ability to collaborate across teams to drive innovation.
- Must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have experience in designing, developing, and optimizing solutions for technical research projects.
- Must have experience in executing technical projects related to decontamination, consequence management, measurement methods validation, source emission characterization, and data collection research in atmospheric sciences, physical, chemical, biological, toxicological, and human and ecological exposure development.
- Must have experience with the development, evaluation, and application of air quality simulation modeling, particularly in the Fluid Modeling Facility Meteorological Wind Tunnel and related research activities.
- Must have experience working in specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication machine shops, Metrology laboratories, and microbiological laboratories.
- Must be capable of writing work plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and reports for work performed by ERG.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, science, or a related technical field.
- Must have a relevant educational background, such as a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, science, or a related field.
- Must be able to work in laboratory and machine shop environments, including fabrication and analytical laboratories.
- Must be able to mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance.
- Must be able to communicate technical information effectively through reports and plans.
- Must be able to work in environments that may include specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication, metrology, analytical, and microbiological laboratories.
