Job Description
The position involves providing technical support for research projects related to environmental science, including developing measurement methods, analyzing source emissions, and working in specialized laboratories to support the U.S. EPA's research initiatives. It offers hands-on experience for early-career professionals in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in the development, design, and execution of research projects related to environmental science and engineering.
- Conduct research activities including measurement method validation, source emission characterization, and data collection in atmospheric and environmental sciences.
- Work in specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication, metrology, analytical, and microbiological laboratories.
- Assist in designing, developing, and optimizing solutions for technical research projects.
- Collaborate with senior staff to prepare work plans, quality assurance plans, health and safety plans, and technical reports.
Requirements
- Must have a strong technical background relevant to engineering, science, or related fields.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must have the ability to collaborate across teams to drive innovation.
- Must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have the ability to work in specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication machine shops, Metrology laboratories, and microbiological laboratories.
- Must have experience or ability to assist in designing, developing, and optimizing solutions and executing technical projects.
- Must have experience or ability to work with senior staff to write work plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and reports.
- Must be a recent graduate or early-career professional seeking hands-on experience in technical research projects.
- Must be willing to support research activities including decontamination, consequence management, measurement method validation, source emission characterization, and data collection in atmospheric sciences, physical, chemical, biological, toxicological, and human and ecological exposure development.
- Must be able to support the evaluation and application of air quality simulation modeling in specialized facilities such as the Fluid Modeling Facility Meteorological Wind Tunnel.
- Must be able to work in environments that include specialized laboratories and machine shops.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly.
- Must be able to write work plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and reports for work performed.
- Must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize tasks.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (implied by the need to work on federal research projects).
