Job Description
This is a field-based position for ecologists involving sampling and studying plants, soils, and rangeland ecology across Utah and Nevada, with a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off, including camping in remote locations during the season.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field sampling of plants, soils, and rangeland ecology in remote locations across Utah and Nevada.
- Operate on an 8-day on, 6-day off hitch schedule during the field season.
- Camp in remote, often unestablished sites during fieldwork.
- Work effectively as part of a small crew, including a crew lead and technicians.
- Prioritize tasks and communicate findings clearly in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
Requirements
- The qualified individual must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- This is a field-based position that operates on an 8 days on Tuesday through Tuesday followed by 6 days off throughout the season.
- Camping will be required during field work, often in remote locations not at established campsites.
- Positions available include Field Ecologists, Crew Leads, and Technicians.
- Sampling activities will occur throughout Utah and Nevada.
- Start dates are tentatively March 2, 2026, or March 30, 2026, and all positions will end by the end of August or early September, with potential extension into September based on location, performance, and need.
- Candidates must start and end their hitches at Salt Lake City, UT, which is the base location, but do not need to reside in Salt Lake City.
- Candidates must be able to perform fieldwork in remote locations, which may involve camping in areas not at established campsites.
- Candidates must be able to work on a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off throughout the season.
