Job Description
The Quality Supervisor oversees and improves quality control processes at a wood pellet manufacturing plant, ensuring product specifications are met through laboratory management, quality assurance, and leading operational teams to optimize product quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and improve plant operations impacting customer specifications and quality metrics
- Manage and supervise the plant laboratory, including sampling, testing, and maintaining QA/QC documentation
- Develop, audit, and maintain quality control tools, test procedures, and ensure accurate and timely test results
- Oversee daily collection and testing of samples, analyze quality metrics, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Develop best practices for handling, preserving, and storing pellets to ensure product quality and safety
- Manage equipment operation and maintenance related to product quality preservation
- Conduct special-project tests to investigate quality issues and optimize operations across plants
- Lead and instruct hourly employees on quality standards, SOPs, and proper procedures
- Perform root cause analysis via cause maps, lead corrective actions, and address downtime and quality gaps
- Supervise receiving personnel as a backup to the terminal manager and set operational direction through pre-shift meetings
Requirements
- At least 4 years experience in Quality, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent education
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time and be able to respond quickly to changing priorities
- Desire to learn quickly and be challenged to take on higher levels of responsibility
- High degree of professionalism and integrity, holding self and other accountable
- Ability to lead hourly team members and flexibility to work odd hours when required to support plant
- Must be able to work in environments that reach temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
- Able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
- Able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment
- Majority of time spent in lab setting, with time in field to collect samples and troubleshoot results
- Must be able to climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis up to 100 ft
- Must be able to push, pull and lift items up to 50 lbs
- Able to frequently walk or stand and also bend, squat, climb stairs and lift items above shoulders on an occasional basis
- Must use required provided PPE such as safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe boots, hearing protection
- This position is not eligible for visa support
