The Crane Operator at Enviva is responsible for unloading logs, operating heavy equipment such as cranes and loaders, and ensuring the safe and efficient handling of logs in a manufacturing environment focused on sustainable wood bioenergy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Unload logs from delivery trucks using a portal crane
Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories
Operate crane and other heavy equipment to lift, move, and place loads
Monitor logs during feeding into the debarker drum and communicate issues
Remove embedded debris or rocks from logs before processing
Lubricate crane parts according to manufacturer and company guidelines
Perform general housekeeping in the work area
Adhere to environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures
Requirements
Complete understanding of log loading handling equipment to include but not limited to the Wagner one-bite log loader, Volvo wheel loader, crane, chipper and on site forklifts.
Working knowledge of the log yards layout, proper log sorting, log grading, green chain, and lumber package storage.
At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
At least 1 year experience in operating earth-moving, crane, or other heavy equipment, moving material, loading or unloading equipment.
Strong verbal communication skills.
High School Diploma or GED.
Be able to lift 50 lbs. without assistance.
Be able to bend and squat while performing duties.
Be comfortable climbing ladders, conveyors, working at heights and on steel grating up to 100 ft.
Stay in seated position at approximate 30 degree angle for long periods of time without a break up to four hours at a time.
Ability to be bounced around by the vibration of crane.
Must be able to climb ladders and work from high elevations.
Adhere to all plant environmental, health and safety guidelines, policies and practices.
