Job Description
The Chip Mill Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment in a wood chip production facility, ensuring continuous and smooth processing of sustainable wood bioenergy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all equipment involved in the chip mill process, including knuckle boom, front end loaders, grapple loaders, and bulldozers.
- Troubleshoot and operate woodyard equipment such as debarkers, chippers, bark hogs, chains, and conveyance systems.
- Perform daily inspections, maintenance, and repairs on equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Use computers and HMI screens to monitor operational parameters and make adjustments as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to meet company standards.
- Complete required paperwork related to operations and maintenance activities.
Requirements
- Internal company certification required.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions.
- Proficient in mathematics and measurement.
- A quick learner, ability to work with little to no supervision.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with heavy equipment operation in a similar industry (preferred).
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Must be able to climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces up to 50 feet on an occasional basis during each shift.
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees, in all types of weather conditions.
- Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Willing and able to operate heavy material moving equipment requiring extended periods of sitting.
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as occasionally pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, climbing, stooping, and standing.
- Ability to operate levers with both hands while seated for long periods.
- Ability to bend, squat, climb, and lift items above shoulders occasionally.
- Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
