The position involves safely loading bulk cargo onto vessels using heavy equipment, following safety protocols, maintaining accurate records, and performing equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting in an industrial maritime environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safely load bulk cargo onto vessels using heavy equipment, cranes, and ship loaders
Follow safety procedures and regulations to meet load rates and quality standards
Maintain accurate records of cargo weights, measurements, and quantities
Inspect equipment, perform rigging, and troubleshoot mechanical issues
Communicate with the operations team and ship crew regarding loading processes
Perform equipment inspections and assist maintenance with repairs
Keep work areas clean and organized
Requirements
Responsible for safe and efficient loading and handling of bulk cargo loading onto a vessel at a Barge, including use of heavy equipment loaders, crane and ship loader to safely load bulk unpackaged materials.
Follow all regulations and safety guidelines to meet load rates and quality targets.
Follow all workplace and job safety procedures.
Ensure vessel is loading correctly, including load rate, gate control, and fine mitigation.
Understand load plan and maintain it to customer satisfaction.
Keep accurate records of cargo handled, including weights, measurements, and quantities.
Operate heavy equipment on vessel - loaders, cranes, and ship loader.
Perform equipment inspections and all rigging.
Identify upset conditions or potential failure points.
Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting, enter work orders, and assist maintenance with repairs.
Keep areas clean, neat, and orderly to meet housekeeping standards.
Communicate with the Operations team, including ship crew.
Ability to work multiple shift schedules and rotating shifts as required.
Ability to independently manage priorities and schedule to meet deadlines.
Willing and able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
Work includes high places more than 175 feet, use of main lifts, and working in confined spaces.
Willing and able to maintain a strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
Able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, crawling, and pulling for up to twelve (12) hours per day.
Able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
Able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
Able to safely perform and fulfill essential job functions consistent with ADA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
High School Diploma or GED.
Previous experience with bulk material loading.
Previous experience in the Maritime industry.
Mechanical aptitude.
Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts to address unexpected site issues with or without notice.
