Job Description
The Senior Chemist will lead the development and characterization of electrolytes and zinc electrodes for e-Zinc's innovative energy storage technology, working on scaling formulations from lab to production and collaborating across teams to advance clean energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own the development and characterization of zinc electrodes and electrolytes for e-Zinc technology.
- Plan, execute, and analyze experiments related to electrochemical, chemical, and physical properties of electrodes and electrolytes.
- Predict and model electrolyte behavior under various conditions using thermodynamics and kinetics.
- Collaborate with external partners to advance technology and translate lab formulations to production scale.
- Contribute to the company's intellectual property through patent applications and trade secrets.
- Collaborate across teams to integrate technology into products and solve technical issues during development.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or related field, plus 10 years of industrial work experience in relevant fields.
- Expert-level understanding and experience in reaction kinetics and thermodynamics.
- Proven experience in electrolyte and or metal-based battery electrode development.
- Expertise in analytical chemistry and electroanalytical methods such as ICP-MS OES, titration, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, rheological studies, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, dynamic and steady state galvanic and potentiostatic methods.
- In-depth knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical systems, corrosion, and materials compatibility.
- Ability to plan and execute experimental work on electrochemical, chemical, and physical characterization of zinc electrodes and electrolytes, including benchtop tests and prototype testing.
- Ability to predict and characterize electrolyte behavior under various conditions using thermodynamics and kinetics of the mechanisms of operation.
- Experience in identifying and characterizing mechanisms regarding electrolyte formulation and operation within the e-Zinc battery.
- Experience in translating lab-scale formulations to production in collaboration with partners.
- Ability to analyze test results and communicate results and conclusions in the form of presentations and reports.
- Ability to document results and analysis in written technical reports, such as test and analysis reports.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams to solve technical issues at various stages of development.
- Experience contributing to intellectual property portfolios through the creation of patent applications and trade secrets.
- Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Self-starter and adaptive learner, motivated to succeed in a start-up environment.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment for oneself and others.
