Job Description
A Field Service Technician responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring safety and operational standards across multiple solar sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, voltage, grounding, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain tools, meters, vehicles, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document system issues and repairs
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards during maintenance activities
- Respond to emergency service calls and corrective maintenance cases
- Ensure work complies with electrical codes and safety standards
- Operate testing equipment such as thermographic cameras, megohmmeters, and fault detectors
Requirements
- Possess a NABCEP Certified Installation Professional certification.
- Have 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- Hold and maintain a valid Class A Journeyman Electrician License and ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
- Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection tools, IV Curve Tracing devices, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection equipment.
- Have diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
- Possess knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Complete OSHA 10 HR Training.
- Complete NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace training.
- Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
- Work is to be performed in the field and in the office, requiring excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures, including the use of PPE such as hard hats, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Physical ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
