Job Description
A Field Service Technician responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, ensuring safety compliance, and supporting the operation of solar assets across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct electrical testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain tools, meters, vehicle, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document operational issues
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards during maintenance activities
- Respond to emergency repair cases and on-call service requests
- Ensure work complies with electrical codes and safety standards
- Operate and monitor SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems
- Use testing equipment to diagnose and resolve PV system problems
Requirements
- Possess a NABCEP Certified Installation Professional certification.
- Have 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- Hold and maintain a valid Class A Journeyman Electrician License and ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
- Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection devices, IV Curve Tracing tools, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection equipment.
- Demonstrate experience in all aspects of PV maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
- Possess diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct electrical problems found during maintenance.
- Have knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design and construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Complete OSHA 10 HR Training.
- Be familiar with NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
- Have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends, and perform daily local travel to project sites.
- Work in the field and office environments, demonstrating excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Adhere to safety and quality procedures and practices, including the use of PPE such as hard hats, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
