Job Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining equipment to support the operation of solar and storage assets across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems
- Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, communication, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain vehicle, tools, meters, and truck stock
- Create service reports and manage spare parts inventory
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards
- Respond to emergency calls and perform corrective maintenance
- Maintain safety standards and proper use of PPE during field operations
Requirements
- Possession of a Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to work in the field and in the office, with excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
- Experience with PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications and monitoring, with 3-4 years of experience.
- Experience in all aspects of PV maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
- Diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, IV Curve Tracing, Meggers, Ground Fault Detection.
- Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
- Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
- Create operability and major issue downtime reports.
- Conduct on-site routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including DC and AC testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance testing, and I-V curve tracing.
- Maintain the vehicle, tools, meters, and truck stock.
- Must have OSHA 10 HR Training.
- Must have NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace.
- Preferred: NABCEP Certified Installation Professional.
