Job Description

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining equipment to support the operation of solar and storage assets across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems
  • Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, communication, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
  • Maintain vehicle, tools, meters, and truck stock
  • Create service reports and manage spare parts inventory
  • Identify and eliminate safety hazards
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform corrective maintenance
  • Maintain safety standards and proper use of PPE during field operations

Requirements

  • Possession of a Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work in the field and in the office, with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
  • Experience with PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications and monitoring, with 3-4 years of experience.
  • Experience in all aspects of PV maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
  • Diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, IV Curve Tracing, Meggers, Ground Fault Detection.
  • Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
  • Create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
  • Create operability and major issue downtime reports.
  • Conduct on-site routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including DC and AC testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance testing, and I-V curve tracing.
  • Maintain the vehicle, tools, meters, and truck stock.
  • Must have OSHA 10 HR Training.
  • Must have NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace.
  • Preferred: NABCEP Certified Installation Professional.
