Job Description
The Design Engineer at Cypress Creek Renewables is responsible for designing and coordinating energy infrastructure projects, including solar, wind, and storage systems, ensuring technical quality, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with internal teams and external consultants.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-house design work including site layouts, energy modeling, performance calculations, and single line diagrams.
- Assist in designing ground-mounted solar PV systems focusing on site layout and civil engineering land development.
- Review project documentation, zoning, and permitting requirements to develop compliant design solutions.
- Produce engineering plans and details using AutoCAD and Civil3D software.
- Support pre-construction activities by participating in EPC RFP processes and managing third-party engineering firms.
- Review scopes of work, deliverables, and schedules for engineering consultants to ensure alignment with project timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical support for new BESS, PCS technologies, PV inverters, and MV transformers.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants, facilitating design meetings and issue resolution.
- Ensure work execution aligns with contracts, policies, and project requirements.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders including contractors, landowners, and suppliers.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred) with 1-5 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, industrial construction, or capital project management.
- Experience in the development and execution of large utility-scale power plant projects.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred, with a preference for candidates working towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Project, Excel), Procore, SiteTracker, and other discipline-relevant software.
- AutoCAD experience specific to project development, including producing engineering plans, details, grading analysis, topographical exhibits, and AutoCAD Civil3D deliverables.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand all project documentation such as City and County zoning and permitting requirements, and produce design solutions to meet these requirements.
- Experience creating and reviewing engineering deliverables, including 10, 30, 60, 90-day design packages.
- Ability to review scopes of work, deliverables, and schedules for engineering consultants, ensuring all engineering activities align with project timelines and budgets.
- Technical support experience for renewable energy technologies such as BESS, PCS, PV inverters, and MV transformers.
- Ability to review and perform risk analysis of site layouts and ensure the execution of work in accordance with contracts and policies.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and handle multiple projects under pressure with a high degree of independence and professional judgment.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate design coordination meetings, issue resolution discussions, and maintain relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, landowners, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, landowners, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to act as the point of contact between internal development/construction teams and external engineering consultants.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
