Job Description
A Design Engineer at Cypress Creek Renewables is responsible for designing and coordinating energy infrastructure projects, including solar, wind, and storage systems, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing external engineering consultants, and supporting project development from design through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-house design work, energy modeling, and oversee external engineering firms supporting energy infrastructure projects.
- Design site layouts, energy models, performance calculations, and single line diagrams.
- Assist in the design of ground-mounted solar PV systems, focusing on site layout and civil engineering land development.
- Review project documentation, zoning, permitting requirements, and reports to ensure compliance and inform design solutions.
- Produce engineering plans and details using AutoCAD and Civil3D software.
- Support pre-construction activities by participating in EPC RFP processes and managing third-party engineering firms.
- Review scopes of work, deliverables, and schedules for engineering consultants to ensure alignment with project timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical support for new BESS, PCS technologies, PV inverters, and MV transformers.
- Coordinate design activities, facilitate meetings, and resolve issues with internal teams and external consultants.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders, including contractors, landowners, and suppliers, to support project development and execution.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred) with 1-5 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, industrial construction, or capital project management.
- Experience in the development and execution of large utility-scale power plant projects.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred, with a preference for candidates working progressively towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Project, and Excel, as well as Procore, SiteTracker, and other discipline-relevant software.
- Experience with AutoCAD specific to project development, including producing engineering plans and details, grading analysis, topographical exhibits, and AutoCAD Civil3D deliverables.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand all project documentation such as City and County zoning and permitting requirements, and produce design solutions to meet these requirements.
- Experience reviewing due diligence surveys, reports, and studies for design and permitting purposes, ensuring compliance and assessing impacts on site design.
- Ability to create and review engineering deliverables, including 10, 30, 60, and 90-day design packages.
- Experience coordinating and managing third-party engineering firms across multiple disciplines such as renewables, CCGT, high voltage electrical, geotechnical, etc., including reviewing scopes of work, deliverables, and schedules.
- Technical support experience for supply chain review of BESS and PCS technologies, PV inverters, and MV transformers.
- Ability to support projects in build, RFP processes, and review ordinance by-laws for developers.
- Understanding of technical options and ability to guide engineering designs to achieve optimal solutions, including risk analysis of site layouts.
- Ability to ensure all engineering activities align with project timelines and budgets, and to develop effective relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, landowners, and stakeholders.
- Experience supporting maintenance of technical specifications and contracts, and acting as the point of contact between internal development/construction teams and external engineering consultants.
- Facilitation of design coordination meetings and issue resolution discussions, with the ability to communicate effectively with superiors and team members.
- Ability to coordinate and handle multiple projects under pressure with a high degree of independence and professional judgment to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%, and must hold a valid driver’s license.
