Job Description

The Thermal Spray Technician Level I is responsible for applying thermal spray coatings to turbine engine components using manual and CNC techniques, following safety and quality standards, with on-the-job training provided to develop technical skills in a modern aerospace repair facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with safety policies
  • Interpret work instructions and shop drawings for proper thermal spray application
  • Inspect, clean, mask, and prepare parts for coating
  • Set up and operate thermal spray equipment, including CNC processes
  • Select and apply specified coatings accurately
  • Handle coatings in accordance with safety, quality, and security policies
  • Remove masking and prepare parts for subsequent processes
  • Perform equipment maintenance and daily checks
  • Conduct process tests and use gauges to ensure coating quality

Requirements

  • A minimum of six months to one year of experience in the thermal spray process.
  • Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers, dial indicators, go/no-go gauges, etc.
  • Experience in reading shop drawings and work instructions and the documentation of work performed.
  • Previous experience in the operation of overhead cranes.
  • General experience using files and other hand tools to remove sharp edges from metal surfaces.
  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Familiar with or able to learn basic shop math.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to lift and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, PPE, respirators, and TyVek jumpsuits when required.
  • Pre-employment testing including fitness for duty testing, respirator fit test, and a vision exam.
