Job Description
The Process Engineer - Machining is responsible for optimizing machining processes such as Turning, Milling, and Grinding (manual and CNC), leading continuous improvement projects, developing standard operating procedures, and ensuring quality and efficiency in the repair of turbine engine components within an aerospace MRO environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and resolve issues with repair processes, engine components, and technical data to improve efficiency and maintain quality.
- Collaborate with Production Managers to reduce rework, improve repair process quality, and enhance turnaround times.
- Develop and revise work instructions, tooling, and fixturing to facilitate production and incorporate new materials or technologies.
- Ensure repair processes meet quality and testing standards using FAA-approved data and industry standards.
- Communicate technical information related to repair processes, problem solving, and quality improvements; assist in employee training.
Requirements
- A 4-year bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field such as Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex technical documentation including OEM repair manuals, FAA regulations, and blueprints.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with other engineers and technicians and convey complex technical concepts to all levels of the organization.
- Machining background with experience in Turning, Milling, and Grinding processes.
- Experience in CNC Machining Programming.
- Ability to understand blueprints.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, equipment, and systems.
- Problem solving and analytical skills, capable of rapidly identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Experience with process implementation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to design tooling and fixturing including GD&T, methods of construction, and material selection.
- Work in accordance with FAA approved technical data and industry standards to ensure process quality and testing requirements are being met.
- Work in a shop environment that may require pre-employment testing, fitness for duty testing, and a vision exam.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
- Ability to work in difficult positions from time to time, stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Occasional use of powered and non-powered hand tools.
