Job Description
The Blast Technician operates and maintains blast equipment to clean and prepare turbine engine components using abrasive materials, following safety protocols and work instructions, while gaining hands-on experience and skills in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow safety protocols and company policies during blasting operations
- Perform various blasting techniques on turbine engine components using equipment such as high-pressure air and blast tanks
- Prepare parts for blasting by masking and taping
- Set up and operate blast machines according to work instructions and manufacturer specifications
- Secure supplies, tooling, and parts prior to blasting operations
- Inspect and maintain blast equipment regularly
- Clean, adjust, and repair equipment using hand tools
- Use overhead cranes and lifting equipment to handle parts
- Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately
- Communicate work-related issues with supervisors and other departments
Requirements
- Two years work experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience with and or a familiarity with pressure gages.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
- Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes from the reading of work instructions.
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Capable of handling multiple tasks.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing, vision exam, and respirator fit test.
- Ability to work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
- Ability to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Ability to move less heavy parts weighing up to 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
- Able to work in enclosed spaces.
- Use of safety and personal protective equipment including safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, and supplied air respirator under some conditions.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
