Job Description
The Non-Destructive Testing Technician-Level II inspects turbine engine components using nondestructive testing methods, participates in training and certification programs, and works under supervision to ensure parts meet quality standards in a state-of-the-art aerospace repair facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete on-the-job training and NAS410 certification for Level II in NDT methods.
- Perform non-destructive testing inspections on turbine engine components following OEM procedures.
- Set up, standardize, process parts, interpret results, and document inspection outcomes.
- Understand the limitations of NDT techniques used for part certification.
- Conduct fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) and fluorescent magnetic particle inspection (FMPI).
- Perform system performance checks according to process standards.
- Receive guidance from certified Level II or Level III inspectors when necessary.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a Level I or II in NDT methods for which qualification and or certification is required.
- The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of shop drawings.
- Previous experience in the use of overhead cranes.
- Shown a previous ability to successfully pass skill level tests in other trades or disciplines.
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Previous experience and or the ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
- Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
- Ability to communicate and work in a team environment.
- Completion of the on-the-job training program and NAS410 certification requirements for Level II.
- Perform NDT inspections in accordance with the manufacturers original equipment manual (OEM) procedures in penetrant testing to detect surface defects in turbine engine components.
- Set up and standardize equipment, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and accurately record and document results.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the scope of limitation of the technique or method used for part certification.
- Part processing includes fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) and fluorescent magnetic particle inspection (FMPI).
- Conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standards.
- Receive guidance or supervision from a certified Level II or Level III in various processing methods when necessary.
- Work in a climate-controlled environment following general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection when required.
- Work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift, and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
