Job Description
The NDT Level II Inspector performs non-destructive testing on turbine engine components, primarily using penetrant and magnetic particle inspection methods, and participates in training and certification programs to advance their qualifications in aerospace maintenance and repair.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete on-the-job training and NAS410 certification for Level II.
- Perform non-destructive testing inspections on turbine engine components using penetrant testing methods.
- Set up, standardize, process parts, interpret results, and document inspection outcomes.
- Understand the limitations of testing techniques used for part certification.
- Conduct fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) and fluorescent magnetic particle inspection (FMPI).
- Perform system performance checks according to process standards.
- Receive guidance from certified Level II or Level III inspectors when necessary.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a Level I or II in NDT methods for which qualification and or certification is required.
- The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of shop drawings.
- Previous experience in the use of overhead cranes.
- Shown a previous ability to successfully pass skill level tests in other trades or disciplines.
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Previous experience and or the ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
- Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
- Ability to communicate and work in a team environment.
- Ability to meet pre-employment testing requirements including a vision test to meet minimum standards for qualification, including color perception and near vision.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection when required.
- Work in varying positions, including standing or sitting for portions of the shift.
- Ability to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Ability to move less heavy parts (up to 50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
- Occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
