The Machine Department Manager oversees the operations and personnel of the machine department, including CNC, manual, and grinding processes, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in turbine engine component repair within a modern, climate-controlled facility.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the overall operations of the Machine Department, including supervision of shift personnel and department activities.
Plan, coordinate, and direct all machining processes related to turbine engine component repair, such as CNC, manual, grinding, and tooling.
Set and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly objectives for the department.
Ensure safety standards and employee well-being are maintained in accordance with company policies.
Monitor work progress and review completed jobs to ensure quality and adherence to scope and standards.
Utilize computer software to assign tasks, verify work, and track performance metrics.
Motivate, coach, and develop team members to achieve performance goals.
Manage staffing schedules, work hours, overtime, and time off to meet customer demands.
Conduct performance reviews, employee development, and handle disciplinary actions.
Collaborate with trainers and other managers to improve employee skills and process efficiencies.
Lead department meetings and communicate organizational changes effectively.
Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements in department processes.
Requirements
A minimum of five years experience as a supervisor or manager in a manufacturing environment or similar.
A minimum of five years experience in interpreting and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of shop drawings and work scope instructions, and applying basic shop math skills to the same.
High School graduate, with advanced educational accreditation preferred.
Experience in and a demonstrated solid foundation in the knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task while adhering to a high attention to detail standards.
Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Overall knowledge of manufacturing processes and production equipment.
Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
Demonstrated previous experience in reading and applying in-depth work instruction and diagrams to daily work assignments.
Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
Ability to follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift.
