Job Description
An experienced ID/OD Grind Machinist Technician is responsible for operating and setting up grinding equipment to precisely machine turbine engine components according to OEM specifications, working within a team in a modern, climate-controlled facility to ensure high-quality production for aerospace and marine industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate horizontal and vertical grind equipment on turbine engine components
- Select, install, dress grinding wheels, and perform setup changes
- Operate machines to remove material and achieve specified dimensions
- Load and unload parts during machine setup
- Follow work instructions and use measuring tools to inspect parts
- Use precision measuring devices to verify work quality
- Record inspection findings and work data accurately
- Participate in training and provide expertise in machining techniques
Requirements
- Five plus years experience operating vertical and horizontal Grind, Hone and Lathe equipment, CNC or manual equipment such as, but not limited to Campbell, Springfield, Frauenthal, Cincinnati, Sunnen, in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, with first article experience.
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming (including feed and speeds), tooling grinding wheels, and fixturing.
- Firm understanding of GD&T, critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
- Demonstrate CNC control abilities on grind equipment to include editing speeds, feeds, tool offsets, and fixture offsets.
- Previous experience or knowledge of rework, setting zero work offset with grinding wheel, understanding grinding wheel differences, and ability to help develop and troubleshoot grinding process engineering participation.
- Familiarity with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
- Technical drawing and documentation reading ability.
- General skills such as use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Read, write, speak, understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.
- Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
