Job Description
An experienced CNC VTL Machinist Technician is responsible for precision machining of turbine engine components in an aerospace manufacturing environment, ensuring dimensional accuracy and conformance to OEM specifications through machine setup, operation, inspection, and problem-solving within a modern, climate-controlled facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC VTL machines to machine turbine engine components to specified dimensions.
- Inspect parts using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Follow work instructions and document findings accurately.
- Set up and adjust machine tooling, holders, collets, and chucks to resolve machining issues.
- Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work.
- Identify and correct machining problems related to tools and fixtures.
- Use heat, dry ice, or liquid nitrogen as required for specific processes.
- Participate in training and provide expertise in on-the-job training programs.
Requirements
- Five plus years of experience in the operation and set-up of CNC Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, with first article experience.
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming, tooling, and fixturing.
- Firm understanding of GD T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
- Rework experience on turbine engine components or similar precision parts.
- Strong shop math and trigonometry skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical drawings and blueprints.
- General bench skills including use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Experience indicating fixtures and parts to reduce runout during machining.
- Understanding of how to create a flat plane for the start of the machining process.
- Basic CNC macro coding experience.
- Basic understanding of VTL work shift procedures and G54 work offset.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate with other employees.
- Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
