Job Description
An experienced CNC VTL Machinist Technician responsible for machining turbine engine components to precise specifications, performing setup, operation, inspection, and finishing tasks in a modern aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow work instructions and use gauges and tools to inspect parts and determine material removal requirements.
- Operate CNC VTL machines to achieve specified dimensions on turbine engine components.
- Use inspection gauges, micrometers, calipers, and hand tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Identify and correct machining problems related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
- Record inspection findings and work progress accurately in documentation.
- Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work when required.
Requirements
- Five plus years of experience in the operation and set-up of CNC Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, with first article experience.
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming, tooling, and fixturing.
- Firm understanding of GD T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
- Rework experience on turbine engine components or similar precision parts.
- Strong shop math and trigonometry understanding.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and technical specifications.
- General bench skills including use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Experience indicating fixtures and parts to reduce runout during machining.
- Understanding how to create a flat plane for the start of the machining process.
- Basic CNC macro coding experience.
- Basic understanding of VTL work shift and G54 (work coordinate system).
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand English, and communicate effectively with other employees.
- Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
- Must be able to follow both written and verbal work instructions, use approved gauges and tools to inspect parts, and accurately record findings on work documentation.
- Ability to operate machines to remove material to achieve required dimensions prior to or after coating processes, including setting gauges to approved master gauges.
- Ability to identify and correct machining problems related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
- Knowledge of using inspection gauges, comparators, micrometers, calipers, and miscellaneous hand tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Experience in performing finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work.
- Participation in training processes and offering expertise in on-the-job training programs for various levels of machinist technicians.
