Job Description

The Technician Shift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the SPARC fusion facility, including monitoring systems, responding to alarms, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting commissioning and operational readiness activities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the SPARC Tokamak and supporting systems safely and efficiently.
  • Respond to alarms and abnormal conditions during control room and field operations.
  • Develop, revise, and follow operational procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and test equipment and system issues.
  • Perform Lockout Tagout procedures to ensure safety during maintenance.
  • Support commissioning, operational readiness, and steady-state operations.
  • Receive training on major plant systems including electrical, cooling, cryogenics, and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Experience in power plant or equivalent complex facility operation, with the ability to perform control room monitoring and field operations, including responding to alarms and abnormal conditions, while ensuring safe operating practices at all times.
  • Ability to perform procedure development and revision related to plant operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and test equipment systems within a complex facility environment.
  • Experience performing Lockout Tagout procedures to ensure safety during maintenance and operational activities.
  • Willingness and ability to support commissioning and training activities for plant systems.
  • Availability to work various shifts including 1st shift (6:00 am - 2:30 pm), 2nd shift (2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, with 10 differential), 3rd shift (10:00 pm - 6:30 am, with 15 differential), weekend 1st shift (6:00 am - 6:00 pm, working Saturday to Monday with 15 differential), and weekend 2nd shift (6:00 pm - 6:00 am, working Saturday to Monday with 30 differential).
  • Must be capable of supporting the safe and efficient operation of the SPARC Tokamak and supporting systems, including electrical distribution, cooling water, compressed air, HVAC, cryogenics plant, and other supporting plant infrastructure.
  • Possess or be willing to acquire training on SPARC’s major steady state plant systems.
  • Must have experience or background in power plant or equivalent complex facility environments, with the ability to thrive in dynamic environments.
  • Compliance with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, with employment contingent on such compliance.
