Job Description

The Senior Manager, Diagnostic Support Equipment leads a team responsible for designing and deploying support infrastructure and instrumentation for plasma diagnostics in a fusion research environment, ensuring timely delivery and integration of hardware to enable real-time plasma measurement and control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Diagnostic Support Equipment team, providing team leadership to 10 staff members.
  • Design and deploy support equipment such as large concrete and steel structures, equipment platforms, cabling, and piping for diagnostics in various facilities.
  • Collaborate with instrumentation and science teams to facilitate the delivery of diagnostic hardware and solutions.
  • Contribute as an individual contributor to ensure the on-time delivery of diagnostic support hardware.
  • Develop engineering solutions to address interface constraints between instrumentation systems and structural members.

Requirements

  • Provide team leadership to 10 direct and indirect staff members in the Diagnostic Support Equipment team.
  • Carry out responsibilities of an individual contributor on an as needed basis to facilitate the on-time delivery of DSE hardware.
  • Design and deploy large concrete and steel structures for radiation shielding, small and large equipment platforms, and solutions for cabling and small diameter piping.
  • Work as part of an integrated team that includes instrumentation leads and science staff from inside and outside of CFS.
  • Possess experience working on a tokamak or fusion plasma diagnostics is not required, but candidates from non-tokamak or non-fusion backgrounds are welcome to apply if they can help deliver SPARC’s diagnostic capabilities.
  • Compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information (Export Control Laws) is required, and any employment offer will be contingent on compliance with these laws.
