Job Description
The Senior Director of Environment, Health, and Safety is responsible for developing and leading EHS programs to ensure safety throughout the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of fusion energy facilities, fostering a strong safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and improve the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for CFS.
- Ensure safety during the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of the SPARC tokamak and facility.
- Champion a strong safety culture across the organization.
- Collaborate with leaders across departments to implement a holistic and proactive safety approach.
- Manage safety throughout the full project lifecycle, from early design to operations.
Requirements
- Experience in developing, leading, and continuously improving Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for organizations, with a focus on the safe design, build, commissioning, and operation of complex facilities or projects.
- Proven ability to champion a strong safety culture throughout an organization and work with leaders across multiple departments to develop and implement a holistic and proactive approach to safety.
- Strong leadership skills in managing safety throughout the full project lifecycle, including early-stage design, construction, commissioning, handover, and operations.
- Experience managing safety programs specifically related to the design, construction, and operation of scientific or engineering facilities, such as fusion power plants or similar high-technology projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage safety in fast-paced environments and align safety practices with organizational values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
- Ability to comply with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, known as Export Control Laws, and ensure compliance as a condition of employment.
- Educational background or equivalent experience in a relevant field related to safety, engineering, or environmental health (specific degree requirements are not explicitly stated but implied by the senior leadership role).
