The Manager of Materials Mechanical Testing at Commonwealth Fusion Systems leads and mentors a team of engineers in testing and characterizing materials and sub-components, supporting the development of fusion power devices by addressing unique materials challenges such as neutron fluxes, high heat loads, and cryogenic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Mentor, coordinate, and grow a team of 2-5 materials test engineers in mechanical and structural testing.
Serve as subject matter expert in mechanical testing of materials and structural testing of sub-components.
Oversee and ensure the quality and accuracy of materials mechanical testing and characterization activities.
Requirements
Must have experience serving as a subject matter expert in mechanical testing of materials and structural testing of sub-components in engineering projects.
Must have the ability to mentor, coordinate, and grow a team of 2-5 materials test engineers.
Must possess specific skills in mechanical testing of materials and structural testing of sub-components relevant to fusion energy applications.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in materials testing, mechanical testing, or related fields.
Must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Must be able to support design engineers, supply chain, and manufacturing teams by defining materials and processing routes, validating and measuring material properties, and conducting research and development.
Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and comply with U.S. export control laws concerning controlled or protected technologies or information.
Must be willing to serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical testing of materials and structural testing of sub-components in fusion energy projects.
Must be able to support work related to devices that pose unique materials challenges including neutron fluxes produced by deuterium-tritium fusion, high heat loads, molten salt coolant systems, complex component topologies, high magnetic fields, and high mechanical loading in cryogenic conditions.
