Job Description
The Head of Hardware Engineering at Commonwealth Fusion Systems is responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of advanced research and development equipment, including high-vacuum chambers and complex machinery, to support the company's fusion energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team to design, build, and implement advanced R&D equipment for fusion energy applications.
- Oversee the development of large, high-vacuum chambers and components operating under extreme conditions such as high temperatures and pressure differentials.
- Ensure mechanical tolerances, component manipulation, and high uptime requirements are met in complex machinery design and implementation.
- Manage and guide engineering efforts to address challenges related to large, robust, and ergonomic equipment components.
Requirements
- A strong track record of leading world-class engineering teams in the design and implementation of cutting-edge complex machinery.
- Experience in designing, building, and implementing advanced R D equipment, particularly high-vacuum chambers components operating under extreme conditions such as high temperatures, large temperature gradients, large pressure differentials, tight mechanical tolerances, and high uptimes.
- Ability to help lead the engineering team in the development of complex machinery for fusion energy applications.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments and demonstrating values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
- Willingness to work onsite in Milpitas, CA.
