Job Description

The General Manager, SPARC Plant will lead the operation of the first-of-a-kind fusion facility, overseeing its transition from construction to commissioning and ensuring the successful demonstration of commercially viable fusion energy through scientific and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage the SPARC fusion facility to ensure successful net-energy demonstration and inform future design efforts.
  • Maximize facility uptime and ensure continuous scientific and engineering progress.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of staff and international partners to operate the facility.
  • Oversee the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of plant systems and tokamak components.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met and safety standards are maintained.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating and managing a large-scale scientific or engineering facility, with a focus on fusion or similar advanced technology systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and build a world-class team responsible for facility operations, including harnessing the knowledge and skills of staff and international partners.
  • Demonstrated success in moving a complex project or facility from the design and construction phase to commissioning and operational phases.
  • Strong leadership skills to ensure the timely success of a net-energy demonstration and to inform subsequent design efforts, such as ARC.
  • Ability to maximize facility uptime and ensure continuous scientific and engineering progress at a major fusion facility.
  • Experience in managing plant systems, including construction, assembly of custom-engineered components, and testing of control and measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of superconducting magnet technology, tokamak systems, or similar fusion reactor components is preferred.
  • Understanding of compliance with U.S. export control laws concerning controlled or protected technologies or information.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment driven by values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid work environment (as indicated by LI-Hybrid).
