Job Description

The Director of Plant Design and Construction Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering team in designing and constructing the SPARC fusion reactor and future power plants, ensuring all components meet operational and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering staff responsible for designing and constructing SPARC and future power plants.
  • Oversee the design and construction processes for plant components including magnets, thermal shields, vessels, and plasma-facing components.
  • Ensure engineering designs accommodate large operational loads such as thermal and electromagnetic stresses.

Requirements

  • Experience managing engineering staff responsible for designing and constructing complex fusion power plant components, including magnets, thermal shields, vessels, and plasma facing components.
  • Proven ability to oversee the design and construction of large-scale industrial or scientific facilities that are subject to large operational loads such as thermal and electromagnetic stresses.
  • Strong understanding of plant design and construction engineering principles applicable to fusion energy systems or similar high-technology, high-stakes environments.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across various engineering disciplines involved in plant design and construction.
  • Experience working within or complying with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to execute projects effectively and impactfully.
  • Educational background or equivalent experience in engineering, physics, or a related technical field relevant to fusion energy or large-scale industrial plant construction.
