Job Description

A Computational Materials Scientist at Commonwealth Fusion Systems will develop physics-based models and simulations to support the design and development of materials for fusion energy devices, focusing on materials in extreme environments and collaborating with engineering teams to reduce uncertainties and advance fusion technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform physics-based modeling, synthetic data generation, and first-principles simulations to support development of fusion materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to identify sensitive parameters and prioritize experimental work.
  • Support the selection, validation, and measurement of materials and their properties for fusion applications.

Requirements

  • A background in both computational materials simulation methods, and materials science and or physical chemistry.
  • Expertise in process-structure-properties relationships, physics informed modeling, and materials in extreme environments.
  • Experience with physics-based modeling, synthetic data generation, and first-principles modeling and simulation to support development of materials.
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineers and subject matter experts to identify highest sensitivity parameters and prioritize experimental work for greatest impact to decreasing uncertainty.
