Job Description
The Solar Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing solar PV systems and related equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable solar power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair solar PV systems and associated equipment
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on PV solar equipment
- Operate electrical and mechanical systems of solar power plants
- Execute routine electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and complex system repairs
- Complete work orders and documentation related to maintenance and operations
- Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety regulations
Requirements
- Possess a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to obtain a GED within the first 6 months of employment.
- Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Understanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards, as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.
- Ability to operate a computer with technical proficiency of standard business software.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a multi-tasking team.
- Valid state driver’s license and good driving record, with the ability to drive a company vehicle.
- Ability to work overtime and non-standard working hours including nights, holidays, and weekends, when needed.
- At least 1 year of experience in a power plant or PV Solar O&M EPC experience, or 2 years of field experience with significant I E, I C, and/or C I Electrician experience, demonstrating knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, control circuits, electrical measurements, and solid state theory.
- Four years of PV solar experience, with proven experience in electrical construction projects, and demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, Journeyman skills such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory application, and knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems.
- Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at a solar generation facility and switchyard, with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and work without direct supervision during work performance.
- Ability to travel approximately 5% as required.
