Job Description

An Engineering Manager for Sustaining Engineering at Canonical leads a distributed team responsible for improving and maintaining open source software across various platforms, ensuring timely bug fixes, technical support, and fostering a collaborative engineering culture in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage a distributed team of engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
Ensure timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and technical solutions across various open source technologies
Support the professional growth of team members and foster a collaborative engineering culture
Collaborate with other teams, stakeholders, and management to align on strategy and execution
Demonstrate technical leadership through expertise in software development, debugging, and testing methodologies
Set and manage expectations with internal teams and external stakeholders
Advocate for modern software development practices and maintain high standards of code quality

Requirements

Technical leadership and a solid background in software development are a must, so that you are able to help your team members grow professionally.
Professional software delivery experience using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar programming languages.
Experience with version control systems such as git.
Experience with debugging tools such as gdb, crash, or other debugging tools.
Demonstrated strong commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
Excellent communication skills in the English language, both verbal and written.
Experience with Linux, with a preference towards Ubuntu.
Experience with Open Source and Open Source Business Models.
People management experience in a support organization.
