Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and reliable back-end microservices using Go and Python, with a focus on API design, performance, security, and DevOps practices, to support Ubuntu's global infrastructure and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-quality APIs and microservices in Go and Python
- Write tests to validate software behavior and ensure robustness
- Build and maintain reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications and services
- Collaborate with global teams through technical reviews, discussions, and documentation
- Debug issues and implement high-quality solutions
- Contribute to technical documentation and best practices
- Participate in proactive security analysis, performance profiling, and system tracing
- Engage in continuous improvement of practices related to scalability, performance, resilience, and DevOps
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating relevant skills and experience.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages.
- Experience with writing modern, maintainable software.
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems.
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience.
- Experience with systems programming or scalable web services.
- Professional written and spoken English language skills.
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each.
